How A Bad Furnace Installation May Cost You | Comfort Zone
November 14, 2016

We can’t always make the best choices, and this applies to installing a new heating system as much as anything else. Often in our work we’re asked by customers to replace a furnace that never seemed to work right. The original installer may have been an amateur, or lacked the appropriate training to do the work correctly. Whatever the reason, the furnace simply has a bad install—and there’s often nothing that can be done to rectify this kind of situation.

If you suspect that you have a badly installed furnace, we’re happy to help you out. Call our technicians and they can give you an honest and straightforward assessment about the furnace. If an inferior installation is the source of the problem, you can trust us to install a new furnace—and install it right so you won’t have worries in the future. You can expect a well-installed furnace to run for 15 years or more.

Some of the Problems with an Amateur Furnace Installation

There is plenty that might go wrong with a furnace if someone without experience or training does the installation. The most common error—and unfortunately one of the biggest—is a furnace that isn’t the right size for heating your home properly. This can mean the furnace is underpowered: no matter how much it runs, it will not be able to adequately keep the house warm and it will simply waste power.

But a furnace that’s too large is also trouble. In this case, the furnace will so rapidly raise the home’s temperature that the system will mistakenly register that the heating cycle is finished and shut off—only to turn back on again a short time later. This start-and-stop process is called short-cycling and it’s terrible for wear and tear on the furnace. It also gobbles up power.

Other amateur mistakes include insufficient air handlers, low flow in the gas line, and bad ignition systems. Let us give your system an inspection and see what we can do to get you the home heating you deserve.
