Atlanta Heating Guide for Big Savings | Comfort Zone
November 26, 2012

This winter, we’re all looking to reduce the amount of energy that we use to heat our homes in Atlanta. Energy prices are on the rise with no sign of slowing down. So what are some easy and practical ways to do that? At Comfort Zone Heating & Air, we’ve been offering heating services in the Atlanta area for years. We thought it would be helpful for our customers if we put together a few ways that you can reduce the amount of energy that you use this winter.

Check Your Insulation

The insulation in your home is one of the best ways to increase the energy efficiency of your home. In particular, the insulation in your attic is critical. As the heat rises in your home, it will try to leak through the ceiling, into the attic and out. Climb up into the attic and make sure that the insulation is filling the gaps between the joists and that it isn’t rotting from water damage or insect and rodent infestation. Old insulation will also look like it’s been trampled down. You want the insulation to be full and thick. If your insulation looks like it’s suffering, you may want to call a heating contractor to replace the insulation.

Thermostat

The thermostat controls when your heating system turns on and off. You can potentially reduce the amount of energy that you use by being smart about your thermostat settings. While you’re sleeping, it’s probably a good idea to turn down the thermostat. Also, if you have a programmable thermostat, you can program it to turn the heating system off when you’re not in your home during the day.

Passive Solar Heat

If you’ve ever seen your dog or cat napping in a ray of sunshine under the window, they’re enjoying passive solar heat. Opening your blinds and letting in sunshine is a great way to get free heat energy. Even during the winter, sunlight still can provide a significant amount of heat into your home.
