Atlanta Plumber Tip: Common Problems with Water Heaters

Do you need a water heater repair in Atlanta? It’s important to call Comfort Zone Heating & Air as soon as you notice any water heater issues. This can prevent more expensive repairs later on.

Here are a few signs that let you know it may be time call for a water heater repair:

Slow Recovery or No Hot Water

It is common for a tank water heater to have a slow recovery, especially during times of heavy use; however, if this happens a lot, you may want to consider a larger tank. If you have a gas water heater, the pilot light may be out or there could be a clogged burner if the water isn’t getting hot enough. For electric water heaters, check the power and the fuse box if you do not have hot water.

Low Thermostat Setting

If you have your thermostat on a low setting, this could account for the water not getting hot enough. Keep in mind that the recommended setting for most water heaters is 140°F, but if you really don’t need to set your water temperature above 120°F. Turning it up not only wastes energy, but it can be unsafe for small children. Check your owner’s manual for more information, or call a professional if you aren’t sure what temperature is right.

Leaking Tank

If the tank is leaking on your hot water heater, there’s not much that can be done except replacing the tank. Call a water heater technician to inspect the tank and see what caused the damage. If you are replacing the tank with a tankless model, you could still have the same issue if there’s a problem with the water quality.  Routine maintenance is always a good way to prevent leaks.
